Safety at Wamsley Elementary
At Wamsley, safety is our number one priority for students and staff. Our school and district work closely with local law enforcement agencies to establish safety protocols, and ensure the safety of students and staff. We practice protocols regularly and have included additional measures to keep students safe at recess.
Safety Committee
We have a safety committee made up of staff members that meet regularly to review, discuss, and implement new safety measures. The staff members consist of teachers, administration, and paraprofessionals.
Entry and Visitor System
We have a new, district-wide, door system that allows only authorized parents, staff, students, and guests into the building. All visitors must check-in with the front-office to get a visitor badge. Guests who have not checked in will be asked to go to the office immediately before entering the building or interacting with students on the playground.
Drills
We practice safety drills regularly with our students to ensure that both students and staff are prepared in case of an emergency. Fire drills are conducted each month, as well as regular lock-down and lock-out drills, many times in coordination with our police department. The staff also participates in trainings each year to review and revise our safety protocols.
Watch-Dogs
This year, Wamsley has implemented the WATCH D.O.G.S. program in an effort to support our culture of school safety. As part of this program, parents volunteer in our school, checking that hallways and doors are secure, helping students learn, and being an extra set of eyes on the playground. If you are a parent and would like to join WATCH D.O.G.S., you can contact the school and ask for information.

Recess/Outdoor Protocol
At recess, staff have backpacks equipped with safety measures that include first aid and supports to help organize students in case a situation occurs outside. Parents and guests are required to wear a badge and check in with the office before going to the playground. Duty staff wears an orange vest for high visibility during recess time.
