Community Outreach

We believe leading our community involves partnering with families and businesses.  We accomplish this through two of our school committees, the Parent and Family Committee and the Community Committee.  Every year these two committees plan all our events at Wamsley.  Below are a few activities or events we have participated in or hosted over the years:

County Fair Open Class Produce Entry: In August, we participate in the county fair by entering our garden produce in the open events.  In the last two years, we have won a ribbon on every vegetable, herb, or flower entered.

County Fair Parade: Walked in or entered floats in the county fair parade.

Outdoor Classroom Day: As part of our Experiential Education block we celebrated National Outdoor Classroom Day by holding all classes outside all day in November. (The weather was beautiful! :)  Local agencies supported our efforts with employees that presented on geology, wildlife, and composting.

McTeacher Night: Once a year we get to serve our families at our local McDonalds restaurant and earn money at the same time.

ACES Family Science Night: With the Garfield County Outdoors Grant (GOCO) in our building this semester, families enjoyed science experiments and a live owl demonstration from the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies staff.

Winter Wonderland Community Night: Working in partnership help support local small businesses by hosting an arts/crafts and vendor fair.

Garden Build/Improvement Day: In May every year, we host families during the day to help add to or improve our school garden. Businesses support this effort through supplies and donations.

Family Culture Night: All students performed dances from around the world as parents enjoyed the student art show.  Local businesses served free food for families representing all the continents.

Totes for Hope: Food is delivered to local families in need in partnership with Reach out Colorado.
